Ultima GTR smashes 0-100-0 world record

Feb 1st

An Ultima GTR has broken the production car 0-100-0mph record set by Autocar in a Caterham R500 Evo (right) earlier this year. Richard Marlowe, director of Ultima, set the record at Bruntingthorpe proving ground in Leicestershire using a fully road-legal car which he drove to the test track. The car was fitted with standard road tyres and the most powerful engine Ultima supplies with the car – the 640bhp 6.2-litre Chevrolet V8 provided by its official engine suppliers American Speed.

The car reached 60mph in 2.9 seconds, 100mph in 5.9 and returned to a standstill from 100mph in a total of an astonishing 10.31sec. This betters the time Autocar recorded for the 250bhp R500 Evo by four-tenths of a second.

The record attempt was verified by Datron technology, which supplied the timing gear for the run, and has been forwarded to Guinness World Records for authentication.

Marlowe was enthusiastic about attempting more world records. He will be returning to Bruntingthorpe in the next couple of weeks to make an official attempt to set a 0-200-0mph world record. He may also try to break the Nürburgring production-car lap record. The Ultima GTR is available from £30,000, with the 640bhp model retailing at £68,000.
