here is one way and the most accurate it will show the max temp just before it gets cooled!
Put the sensor inline on the HOT line (line from trans to cooler)· Cut the line, and use a T–fitting· The sensor should use an 1/8 NTP the other ends can be 1/8 ntp also and then just go to a hardware store and get some fittings that match the size of the cooler lines and clamp it all together. If it is hard pipe use compression fittings like what you would find on a mechanical boost gauge only larger and for metal not plastic hose, for rubber hoses you can use clamp fittings and connect it all together by using the 3 way T fitting.
A second way is look on the sides of the trans or the pan. Some trans have a 1/8 NTP threaded hole already there just plugged (ford for example has one on the drivers side of the trans. Just remove it and plug your sensor in. or pull your drain plug replace it with one that has been tapped for NTP threads or buy an adaptor that will fit the drain hole and has a NTP threaded hole. (but this way you might as well service your trans at the same time since you will be draining all the fluid or atlease most. spend a little and just take the pan off and replace the filter.
One more option is drill and weld a new bunge in the pan while servicing it.
Hope this helps you DIY, If not pay an expert!
